Hello, my name is Dr. J. Terry Wilson but my students nicknamed me Dr. W many years ago. At the age of 14, I began teaching crafts and gymnastics at a local YMCA. I did not realize at the time that teaching was to be my calling. It has never been just a job or career. Since the seventies, I have taught mathematics, both undergraduate & graduate, and mathematics related courses. My love of mathematics resulted in me receiving a BS, MS, and PhD in mathematics. Although my major area was mathematics, I supplemented my training with courses in engineering, physics, computer science, … I guess that is why I’m called an “Applied Mathematician”.

Over the years, I have been a co-director of numerous mathematics related grants training teachers (and their students) from kindergarten through the 12^th grade. In addition, I have taught courses on How to Teach Mathematics  – Algebra, Precalculus, & Calculus to teachers at various levels.

1. Individual and group student training/mentoring

Note: The word tutoring suggests just surviving the current course a student is in. I use the word training since understanding past material is critical in mastering the present with eyes on possible future coursework.

2. I provide individual and group teacher training/mentoring.
3. In addition to conducting Professional Development – face to face or virtual, aka Math In-Services, I develop and facilitate various workshops with or without technology.
4. I review and develop Math curriculum making sure to include a review of past material required to master current topics.
5. I design and implement entire custom Math courses, both face to face and virtual, with or without handouts, quizzes, examinations and technology.
